It also appears that the game got its first showcase in Focus Home Interactive 's WhatsNext‬ event.

Feed me to the Old Ones if old.

Holy crap, I just watched a LP of Dark Corners of the Earth. Perfect timing. After Bloodborne I need all the lovecraft stuff I can get my hands on.

Lovecraft = bought, no questions asked. Lovecraft survival horror, horror RPG, horror visual novel, horror dating sim, whatever. I'm in.

Good news. We had a thread about this game a while ago and with no new news, people were getting worried about a cancellation.

I am hoping for a more measured and psychologically scary game rather than a Dark Corners of the Earth style shooter. Although that game did a lot of cool stuff, there was too much emphasis on the pretty unfun combat.

I really want this to be great, we deserve it at this point. There's certainly been enough great horror games lately (SOMA, Alien Isolation, Amnesia, Layers of Fear, etc) that they don't even have to be THAT original to make it passably entertaining.

I just hope they don't overdo it with the schlocky occult horror feel. Lovecraft is more unsettling and less about the classic horror tropes.

I would also be interested in a Cthulhu mythos game set in modern day, also. Lovecraft always gets the 1920s treatment, which I guess is understandable considering the time period in which he wrote... but still, these are ancient and timeless gods were talking about here! They're still going to be doing their thing 100 years later.

Exactly. Slapping Cuthulu on anything makes it sound better. Call or Cuthulu: Modern warfare? Bought. Assassins Creed: Cuthulu? Bought Far Cry: Cuthulu? Bought. Dance Dance Cuthulu? So Bought.

Interesting... Cyanide huh. Game of Thrones had terrible gameplay but decent writing. Styx had mediocre writing but solid gameplay (level design was fantastic, stealth mechanics were quite good too), but both games were janky and had pretty blatant performance issues. Hopefully they'll pool their skills more optimally for a Lovecraft game, and get some help with polishing everything for the performance. Styx on the PS4 was almost ruined by the loading times and had terrible framerate drops despite not being that demanding visually.
I hope the transfer of assets from Frogware to Cyanide won't cause too many issues either.

Do we know what kind of game it's going to be? If it's based on the RPG, I hope their RPG mechanics will be better than those in Game of Thrones... >_< I think I'd prefer an adventure game to be honest, but we'll see.

Pretty sure Dance Dance Cuthulu requires movements that humans can't possible preform.

It's really sad the best Lovecraftian things we've had in the last five years are Bloodborne, Darkest Dungeon, and a Skyrim Expansion, Dragonborn.

We NEED MORE.. MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Is this being made by Frogwares still? I love those guys. Love Lovecraft!

Edit: Shit...Cyanide is making this? Expectations lowered then...i dont know what went down between Frogwares and Focus Home but it sucks not to see a Frogwares take on it :(

There isn't enough lovecraft games in this world.

Indeed!

Wow, it seems this junior member was right:

I have some new info on the game from a credible source. It won't be based directly on one of Lovecraft's works but will be an original story set in the Lovecraft universe but in an original town/country. It is being written by someone with a great deal of experience in the genre. A title has not been established as of yet so an official announcement may be a way off. After finding this out I presume Cyanide will be developing Call of Cthulhu and it looks as though Frogwares are going it on their own so we may get 2 Lovecraft games in the future.

Cyanide? :\

Wasn't this supposed to be made by the folks doing the Sherlock Holmes games?

They were dropped off the project, presumably due to them preferring to work on Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter. Just rumors, though.

They literally posted a couple months ago they're still working on it: https://twitter.com/Frogwares/status/677420116418670593

It probably won't be as good as the "original" game (despie its flaws), but still interested in what the final product will be.

They were originally going to make 4 games after Dark corners (one based on At the Moutains of Madness), but because of bakrupcy, Lovecraft fans lost so much....

I think people need to realize Call of Cthulhu is a popular role-playing game based off of Lovecraft mythos (there is a novel by Lovecraft named Call of Cthulhu, but the IP brand Call of Cthulhu is a role-playing game that has the rights for game distribution of Lovecraft games, and as a result I guess handles most licensing of Lovecraft video games, thus why most have "Call of Cthulhu" set to them).

The 'original' Call of Cthulhu game is the 1993 "Call of Cthulhu: Prisoner of Ice" point'n'click game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/359620/

There was also the 1995 point'n'click, Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet: http://store.steampowered.com/app/389470/

The Call of Cthulhu game most people think of is the 2005 "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth," which is a hybrid of an original story, a few of Lovecraft stories (most notably The Shadow Over Innsmouth), and a couple of scenarios from the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/22340/

More recently, there was a 2012 SRPG known as Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Lands: http://store.steampowered.com/app/251390/

And now it seems there are two Call of Cthulhu games in the works, if either or both see the light of day is to be seen, but right now at this moment we know both are being worked on, one Call of Cthulhu game by Cyanide here, and another by Frogware.

These two games may have nothing to do with Dark Corners of the Earth, the IP brand isn't specific to Dark Corners of the Earth, it's just the brand of most officially endorsed Lovecraft games because of licensing through the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game.

4?! Wow, only remember hearing about the second game. Big shame.

Edit:
Lovecraft books and tales are amazing, why there are so few games about the subject?
Apart from copyright issues (a reason you can find a lot more games inspired by lovecraft, like Penumbra or Sunless sea), it's risky to make a Lovecraft game.
His works are so great due to being about the fear of the unknown, describing the undescriptible. Hard to represent in a video game without being too ridiculous, or to find the right balance of fear, avoid just jump scares, etc. There's quite a bit of good Lovecraft inspired games though!
I'd love more lovecraft games, but as a developer, I'd fear (eh) to be associated with his name. I'd prefer making a game inspired by his work and avoid some risks in the process.
